Instagram’s suite of safety tools and features allow you to tailor your experience to suit your needs, enabling you to connect in meaningful ways in a safe and secure environment

Comment tools let you pin, hide, delete, filter and block comments on your own posts. This enables you to tailor the tone of conversation within your community to be exactly as you would like it

Using the Manual Filter allows you to enter words and phrases, emojis or numbers you find uncomfortable. Alternatively, you can use the automated Hide Offensive Comment tool in the Settings > Privacy > Comments menu

You are in control of all public comments on your posts. You can turn off comments completely or use the comment tools to pin, hide, delete, filter or monitor other people’s comments. If you don’t think a comment is right for you or your community, you can do something about it

You will also be able to decide whether to make their comments public or not. Their comments will not be made public by default unless you manually approve them

If you are not comfortable with someone’s posts, using Mute will stop their posts appearing in your feed. You can also mute a user’s Stories as well

Private means that your posts and stories are not publicly viewable. This enables you to build a private community and gives you total control over who sees your content

Followers that you remove will not be notified that you have removed them. You can also anonymously ‘Block’ any user which will stop them from following you

Instagram’s Activity Notification feature can be used to monitor the time you spend online so that you don’t neglect other important offline wellbeing routines such as sleep, diet and exercise

You can anonymously report any posts, messages or other content that you feel is putting someone at risk of harm. Select “It’s Inappropriate > Self injury” in the report menu and the Instagram team will respond and connect that person to resources and help

Blocking someone reduces their ability to connect with you or see your content. All of their comment history will be erased from your posts and they won’t be able to mention or tag you either
